On September 19 and 20, 1992, restored former Nickel Plate Road 2-8-4 #765 made a pair of round trips over the former Kentucky Division of the Illinois Central Railroad. The trips ran between Paducah and Central City, over what is now the Paducah & Louisville Railroad.
The program starts with a brief look at Illinois Central steam and the importance of Paducah to the Illinois Central, before moving on to the 1992 trips.
On the Saturday trip we ride the train. Trackside scenes at the photo runby in Princeton and during the service stop in Central City are included. On the return to Paducah, we join a retired Illinois Central engineer for some remembrances of working the line late in the steam era.
Then on Sunday we chase the train from Paducah to Central City and return. Many highlights of the line are seen, including the dams at Lake Barkley and Kentucky Lake. Then we follow the train on a weekday deadhead move between Paducah and Louisville. This is program any steam fan is sure to enjoy.
