This volume in The Heritage Series from Diverging Clear Productions covers Norfolk Southern early in its existence, when plentiful locomotives painted in the colors of the Southern Railway and Norfolk & Western mixed with newly repainted Norfolk Southern power.
Most of this program was filmed on the former Southern Railway St. Louis line between Bluford and Albers, Illinois. This line includes Centralia, a well known Illinois hot spot.
Rare locomotives are prominent, with EMD GP30s, GP35s, SD45s, GP50s and GP59s abounding. In addition to some of the rarities, brand new SD60s and C39-8s make brief appearances alongside SD40 and C30-7s. There is also plenty of footage of locomotives running long hood forward; a custom N.S. inherited from both the Southern and N.& W.
In addition to the scenes in southern Illinois, we make side trips to Indiana, Kentucky and Alabama for additional views of Norfolk Southern at work.
Trains are seen in all kinds of weather from sun to rain to fog. In addition to trackside scenes, there is plenty of pacing as well, including a sequence pacing the long since discontinued Amtrak River Cities west of Centralia.
Any fan of Norfolk Southern, Southern Railway, Norfolk & Western, or 1980s railroading will enjoy this program from Diverging Clear Productions.
