During
our journeys we have visited both Norfolk Southern’s famous Pennsylvania
Railroad Middle Division, which includes Horseshoe Curve, and CSX’s former
Baltimore & Ohio line over Sand Patch Grade. This program presents footage from both
lines.
Shot
in 2013 and 2022, the N.S. footage includes stops at Altoona, Horseshoe Curve,
Bennington, Gallitzin, Cresson, Lilly and Cassandra. Freight and passenger meets were captured,
including a sequence featuring three trains passing at once. It is one busy line!
Our
visit to Sand Patch was filmed in 2022, and we visited Hyndman, the Foley
overlook, Glencoe, Sand Patch, Myersdale and the Salisbury Viaduct. Traffic is much lighter on this line, but we
did manage to capture a meet at Glencoe shortly after daybreak.
