From the days of tiny 4-4-0 steam locomotives, through the days of Paducah rebuilt steam and diesel power, through the Illinois Central Gulf era, the “new image” Illinois Central and into today’s Canadian National ownership, the e-book looks at over 100 years of history along the railroad that called itself the “Mainline Of Mid-America.”
The book is 476 pages in length, with the first 176 pages being dedicated to photography. 385 photos are featured in this book. Chapters include early views of the railroad, the late steam era, the locomotive terminal of the steam era, the end of steam, the 1960s, the Illinois Central Gulf, the “new image” I.C. of the 1990s, the early C.N. merger era, and the railroad as it is today. Following the photography, additional sections feature locomotive rosters and timetables.
The rosters present the locomotives as they were in 1933, 1937, 1955, 1960, 1971, 1989, 2000, and the modern Canadian National roster as of mid-2015.
Public timetables include the 1868 official guide, the 1906 official guide, and full timetables from 1937 and 1947. System employee timetables from 1989 and 1999 are also included.

Union Pacific announced its purchase of Missouri Pacific in 1980, but it wasn’t until late 1982 that the purchase became official. This e-book looks at the diesel power of Missouri Pacific as it was at the time of the merger and is 96 pages in length. Chapters cover most of the types of locomotives on the roster, and a period roster of MoPac power is included. The last chapter looks at the post merger era, but the vast majority of photos are pure Jenks Blue with the Screamin’ Eagle!
The book is organized by chapters on each type of locomotive, including EMD switchers, GP18, GP35 rebuilds, GP38, SD40, GP15, GP50, U30C, U23B, B23-7, and B30-7A. These are followed by a chapter of general MoPac scenes from the 80s and a chapter on the post-merger era with former MoPac locomotives in Union Pacific yellow. The last chapter is a roster of Missouri Pacific diesels at the time of the merger.
This book features 178 photos, and all photos are from Kodachrome color slides. The majority of photos were taken in Salem and Mount Vernon, Illinois, and St. Louis, Missouri.

Starting in the forties and moving forward through the present day, this e-book takes a look at steam locomotives in the United States. Through 260 pages and nearly 500 photographs, locomotives are viewed from the late steam era through today’s 21st Century Steam program on the Norfolk Southern.
The book is organized in chapters covering the late steam era, early post dieselization operations, the late sixties and seventies, heritage railroads, the heyday of excursions in the 80s and early 90s, and steam in the 21st Century.
Some of the notable operations covered include Burlington’s 4960, the Southern Railway and Norfolk Southern steam program and most of the locomotives the programs used, Union Pacific’s locomotives 844 and 3985, Steamtown and its place in steam preservation and operation, the American Freedom Train, the Chessie Steam Special and the Rio Grande Narrow Gauge. Also covered is the Crab Orchard & Egyptian, a common carrier that stuck with steam until 1986. All that and a WHOLE lot more, along with informative captions and chapter introductions.
