This CD features the sounds of steam locomotives in operation during the early to mid 1990’s, with a 1984 recording of the last steam locomotive in daily freight service in the United States thrown in for good measure.

This CD contains sounds from some of the oldest steamers in operation to some of the newest. Greenfield Village #3 was built in 1873 while 1218, 3985, 765 and and 819 are products of World War II, the last great flurry of steam locomotive construction before the rush to diesels began in earnest.
Highlights include CO&E #17 switching in Marion, Illinois. #17 was the last steam locomotive in daily freight service on a freight only common carrier in the U.S., operating into September of 1986.
Other highlights include 3985 whistling past at 60 miles per hour, Frisco 1522 climbing Rolla Hill with a freight train and Black Hills Central Baldwin Built power climbing 4 percent grades in South Dakota.
